“Designers use creative tools to address a vast range of challenges”
NICOLA RUDGE
Designing change — from vision to reality
Design shapes how we live, how we feel, and how we move ideas into the world.
For over three decades, I have worked at the intersection of design, coaching and lived experience, helping individuals, organisations and communities transform ideas into healthy, sustainable and meaningful realities — whether that’s a physical space, a life transition, or a new way of working.
My work is rooted in a simple belief:
when people are clear, aligned and supported, change becomes not only possible, but natural.
MY BACKGROUND
I am the founder and lead practitioner of Lifeworks by Design, bringing together a unique blend of design and life experience across:
- Film and television production design
- Visitor attractions and immersive experiences
- Hospitality, boutique hotels and cruise ships
- Residential, commercial and heritage buildings
- Social change, and community-led initiatives
- Product design to meet human challenges
Throughout my design career, I became increasingly aware of the waste — of energy, resources and human potential— created by poorly aligned systems and rushed decision-making. I knew there had to be a better way.
At the same time, I realised that much of my design work involved coaching: helping clients find clarity, articulate what mattered most, navigate complex transitions, and understand what processes work.
This led me to formally train and practice as a coach for over 17 years, working extensively in design & wellbeing via the Alignment Experience, patient advocacy and person-centred healthcare initiatives.
WHY DESIGN AND COACHING?
Design turns ideas into form.
Coaching helps people access their own wisdom.
When woven together, they become a powerful, practical kind of alchemy.
The internal clarity and motivation to turn their ideas into form.
I now focus on developing and delivering transformational processes that use:
- Design thinking
- Coaching principles
- Visioning, mapping and blueprinting
- Systems thinking and holistic wellbeing
This approach supports people to:
- Clarify what you truly want
- Align values, purpose and action
- Avoid costly and frustrating missteps
- Communicate vision clearly to others
- Create solutions that are sustainable, accessible and deeply personal
The process itself becomes transformative — often revealing possibilities that weren’t visible at the start.
“Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”
HOW I WORK
I work collaboratively and compassionately.
Together, we:
- Explore and uncover what matters most
- Map where you are and where you want to go
- Design pathways that honour your reality, not an idealised version
- Break complex challenges into clear, self-guided next steps
Whether working with individuals, organisations or communities, my role is not to prescribe solutions, but to help you see more clearly and use design to support your own way forward.
As one client shared:
“It made sense of what I’m going through without being prescriptive. It was all about what I wanted to achieve — I was just given a new way to see it.”
WHAT GUIDES MY WORK
My mission is grounded in responsibility — to ourselves, to those who came before us, and to those who will come after us.
I believe:
- True wealth includes health, wellbeing, connection and belonging
- Life is a series of transitions — and none of us should navigate them alone
- What we design today shapes the world we live in tomorrow
My work is dedicated to supporting:
- More conscious ways of living and working
- Healthier environments and systems
- Greater alignment between purpose and practice
- Creating communities where people can be safe, valued and able to grow
An invitation
Design has the power to change lives — including your own.
When clarity meets intention, and intention meets action, ideas begin to move.
From vision… into reality.
If you are navigating change, seeking alignment, or ready to create something that truly reflects who you are — you are warmly invited to begin.
